RFID – Radio Frequency Identification

RFID technology is the use of radio waves to read information stored on an RFID tag.  Typically, a reader communicates with an RFID tag, which holds digital information stored in a microchip.

RFID technology has been around for many years but has become popular most recently based on some major retailers and government agencies mandating its use to gain efficiencies in their supply chains.  Pharmaceutical companies and the FDA have also suggested that it be used as a component to help thwart the counterfeiting of commercial drugs as well as building a more secure and efficient supply chain.

Some additional benefits that can be realized from the utilization of RFID technology include:

·        Tracking individual items with serialized data

·        Reducing human intervention

·        Increased throughput within the supply chain

·        Real-time data capture

·        Increased security

There are different types of RFID technologies, each having specific benefits based on their performance characteristics.  The decision as to which type of RFID technology to use is dependent upon the desired results of the application or process that is being targeted and the makeup of the materials and/or components being tagged.

Juiced Technologies can assist you with your RFID needs, we are CompTIA® certified in RFID technology and would be happy to discuss your RFID project.
